Hill Climb Cancelled.

We checked Franklin Mt. this afternoon and it is still a mess. No pavement for quite a ways, stones, dust - no good for biking. So--we'll cancel the USPP hill climb scheduled for tomorrow evening. We are considering using another route, possibly up Winney Hill Road. Check your email in July for an update - Fran and Neil Toombs

The 2006 route for the Hill Climb - we may go back to this depending on the feelings of the riders - until things get back to normal on NYS 28 on Franklin Mtn - a 2.5 mile climb starting at the north

Rd. and Blend Hill Rd., and finishing at the highest point on Blend Hill Rd. See the old topo map section below

The photos below this are from the last Hill Climb of the season held on September 20th . You can tell from the way that people are bundled up that it was warmer on April 19th than on September 20th.

The photos below are from the first Hill Climb of 2006, held on April 19th

USPP held the first Hill Climb of 2006 on April 19th. It was a really beautiful evening with some winds. The high for the day was about 71 degrees which is 15 degrees above average for the date.

April 19th, 2006

Neil, Fran and Gerrit timed the Hill Climb in their usual efficient and friendly fashion.

There was a good turnout for the event. Last year the most riders at a Hill Climb was 15 and we had 13 show up on April 19th. All of them were riding hard hoping to catch site of that historical marker at the top of the hill that means that they have completed the course and can ease off.

A first time rider, Jen Ives, who was just cruising around Oneonta on her new Trek came upon the clump of cyclists gathered at the start and pulled over to see what was going on. She was persuaded to take a shot at doing the Hill Climb. She did a great job coming in first among the women with a time of 14:12. For the men Nick Suozzo showed great early season form posting 11:28.
